I will gladly paypal $25 to anyone who can help or make a donation to someone who uses PayPal on your behalf. I am available to talk via email, messenger phone or here. We had an old router that worked. I upgraded to a slightly better one thinking it would help - nothing works now. I can not get on the internet w/router hooked up. My kid plays Warcraft & is going nuts - any help. Windows 7 mentions a DNS issue but no details.

I am running windows 7
*Using Bittorrent (the ability to torrent quickly) along with online gaming is the most important thing*

So if there is a more intelligent way to setup my system which will assist me with the above that would be what I am most interested in.

Beyond a general understanding I do not understand:
Ports/forwarding; TCP/IP;DNS;DHCP;WAN and so on.

However, I understand them and believe they are important when one desires max torrent speed.

I had an ancient dlink router which worked. However, it was suggested I purchase a new router. I bought a linksys befw1154(Ether-Cable/DSL 4 port switch) router. Although not the newest it is more up to date than the 11 + year old D-Link.

I am not computer savvy but follow instructions and google unknown terms better than anyone I know. I DID NOT hook up my previous DSL/Vonage/Router and no one is available to assist me. Before I switched it worked like a champ!!!! So the problem is ME!

Keep in mind this is windows 7.

I have the standard Motorola modem SBC/AT&T provide the vast majority of customers. My Vonage box is 2 lines.

DSL>Vonage>Computer - all works fine
1 2 3
DSL>Vonage>Router>Computer(s)
1 2 3 4

Considering the later 4 component setup. As Vonage is in the #2 position wouldn't this conflict with the router? Is this ok? Shouldn't Vonage be after the router? But this is what I believe Vonage suggests and how I was set up before.

I have the ethernet cable running from the DSL to the Vonagebox.
then>
Another ethernet cable goes from Vonage to the WAN port on my router.

Port 1 connects to my computer and port 2 connects to the other computer.
-
A more detailed/different way to explain this:
DSL>VONAGE(in/'internet' - blue color port)>Vonage(out/computer - yellow color port)>WAN
-Router Ports 1 & 2 are connected via ethernet to each computer

With this config I am unable to access the internet.

Does Vonage need to go after my router?
DSL > Router(Wan port)>Router port 1>Vonage(in)>Vonage(out)>MY computer then Router port2>second computer

I am confused.... Ports, wires, lights, terms, networks....

THEN then there is software:
Additional software information(Linksys):
Per SBC/AT&T something called PPPoE is enabled
Myuser name and password are entered into the router(setup menu)
Obtain IP Address Automatically is selected
Obtain DNS Auto is selected Auto - I believe
DHCP Enabled

Windows7 Software Setup
The networking options are different from Vista/Xp

ControlPanel>Network>Local Area Connections>Properties

The above brings me to the local area connection property window.
> Internet Protocol Version4(TCP/IPv4)>click properties
Auto IP/DNS select checked

First thank you. Vonage tells me to call my ISP for help to set up a router. My ISP(AT&T)
Now I'm confused. It sounds as if you have the new Linksys working. But now you want
