I've had Vonage for just over a month - maybe 6 weeks now. For the most part I am pleased with the phone service. I am lucky since all I did was plug in the adapter, plug in my phones, and it has worked. I did have to call tech support twice to fix volume related problems with the Motorola VT2442 adapter, but even those experiences weren't too awful - they could have and should have been better.
I agree with what ddawatson says that Vonage is not ready for prime time. I'm willing so far to put up with a few quirks - like a couple of calls here and there where people calling me can't hear me when I answer, or the caller ID showing up some random Manhattan number when I call someone else. For the annual savings, I'll put up with those few things - but that's about it. Any more and I'll jump ship. My savings is only on the order or $10 to $15 per month - so for the added $120 to $200 per year in savings it's just not worth the hassle of having to deal with horrible customer care, and mediocre phone service.
From my perspective I remain cautiously optimistic that Vonage will live up to their claim of saving me money, but if they slip any more on performance or service they're out. I'll end up paying the $40 cancellation fee, but that will be it for Vonage.
Do you suppose any Vonage people read these posts and take note? I hope so, it's the only reason I spend my time writing them...
