Vonage I've experienced this 2-3 times since I've had Vonage. After Hurricane Wilma,
I've experienced this 2-3 times since I've had Vonage. After Hurricane Wilma, Sprint (local phone co in SW FL) screwed up and forgot which central offices the trunks ran through, put generators on the ones they thought were critical, but not the ones which were actually critical,so once the batteries died, that's it, lines were out. Cell phones were also rendered useless by this, as they ultimately terminate with the wireline phone co.
Similarly, we had 2 other times when fiber lines were cut, knocking out both landline & cell service.
In both of these times, Vonage, being located outside of Florida, still worked like normal. Of course, your internet connection and source of power will be a limiting factor in situations like this, but I had plenty of those to choose from. Another factor that works in Vonage's advantage is their distributed network. When a hurricane is approaching FL, landline long distance trunks are flooded. Once the winds pick up, the cell towers start getting damaged and start failing as well.
