Vonage I've been using Vonage for several years now and for a long time I did not experience

I've been using Vonage for several years now and for a long time I did not experience this problem. My dad signed up last year and experienced it from the beginning. I haven't timed any calls to see if it occurs on the 15 minute intervals that I have read about in this thread, but it does appear to last between 10 and 20 seconds.

Vonage told him that it was a bandwidth problem. He ran some tests and talked to his cable modem provider who then ran some new cable to his house and increased his bandwidth significantly, however the problem remains. Also, he has a Linksys RTP300 terminal.

I contacted Vonage last year about a different issue. When they were unable to resolve the issue, which turned out to just be a limitation of their service (apparently you cannot send DTMF signals on an existing call within the Vonage network and outside the network, you can only have the terminal configured to do one or the other), they offered to exchange my older Motorola terminal with a new Linksys RTP300 terminal because it had more configurable options and may allow me to get around my issue. After installing the RTP300 we discovered that it would not resolve my DTMF problem, so I am stuck with that.

Now that I have the RTP300, however, I experience the same audio blanking that my dad experiences. It always seems to be the Vonage side that can't send data; when I talk to my dad sometimes it is my side and sometimes it is his, but it is always the other person that can't hear me when I talk to someone on a standard analog or mobile line. I have 350kbps upstream according to www.dslreports.com so I can't imagine that it is a bandwidth problem.

Neither my dad nor I have been able to get Vonage to do anything about it as they claim it is a bandwidth problem. Once they told him it was because Time Warner uses a backlevel version of DOCSIS but that was supposedly upgraded in March of this year and the problem continues. It seems obvious to me that either Vonage has a problem here or something is wrong with the Linksys terminals, but I can't figure out how to make them see that. Oh well, that is my two cents.

Brent
