I've been reading through various xbLive and Halo threads on here, but it seems that my problem is a little different (maybe? maybe not?).
I too have trouble losing connections to games when playing Halo 2 (nothing else, only H2). Granted I don't play any other big multiplayer games.
But here is what I found out for me. When I get dropped, my whole network goes down and I need to cycle the modem and router before anything comes back. So, for me its more than just my xbox loses xbLive.
Here's my standard connection stuff:
Comcast (8MB down / 768 up) -> Moto SB4200 -> USR 8054 -> xbox/360/ Vonage RTP300 / computers
Now with all of that said, I can play 2v2 and 4v4 and 8's free for all games all nite long on Halo 2. I don't get dropped til I play either 6v6 or BTB (8v8). AND it only happens when I'm host because my friends tell me that when I drop, they get the blue screen (meaning I was host).
Now as far as troubleshooting network connex on my end. I have tried this on my xbox and on my xbox360 ... same results. I have tried the RTP300 first then the USR 2nd with the xbox in the RTP300 and in the USR router and all various combinations of such. I have tried completely unplugging the RTP300 from the USR. I have even tried unplugging all of my routers before going on XBLive and plugging my xbox directly into the cable modem and I still get dropped in the big game scenarios where I am host.
The only thing I haven't tried is upgrading my cable modem. So, does anyone know is there a problem inherent with my older cable modem? inherent with Comcast's internet?
The thing I can't understand is this ... when I completely unplug Vonage, I still lose my internet connection while playing Halo2. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I never had this problem til getting Vonage.
