I've been having the same exact problem, but never thought it would be related to the LinkSys/Cisco device. But now that you mention it, the problem has been occurring for about the same time that my device has been active, both before the POTS number transferred and after, for about 6 weeks now.

My configuration is a D-Link DI-614+ router, mostly wired. My home email server is a Windows 2000 system running Kerio Mailserver and connected via CAT5. Kerio pulls POP3 mail into a local mail store that we access via an IMAP client (Mozilla Thunderbird) on Windows XP machines connected via wire or WiFi. Internal IMAP access within our LAN does not require SSL (can use port 143), but only the SSL port (993) is open through the router for external IMAP access.

The symptoms are exactly like you say, and very intermittent (a failure of this sort is the exception, not the rule). After composing a message and sending, the appearance is that the message does not get sent. There is no copy placed in the Sent Items folder. However, having had this happen once on a message sent to my wife, I know that all 4 attempts sent messages. It's just the copy didn't get into Sent Items.

I have not seen this problem when accessing the server remotely via IMAP, but then I rarely do (only when on travel). However, I am pretty sure I have seen it both on machines configured to use SSL and not. Accessing web mail from work (Kerio has a webmail interface too) works fine.

I haven't messed with my router performance settings.
