Vonage I've been a customer since Jan 2005, but in the last month or so I've been having



I've been a customer since Jan 2005, but in the last month or so I've been having problems with incoming calls. When I
receive an incoming call, my phone may give me one
abbreviated ring, and often does not ring again (or sometimes I don't even get an abbreviated ring). However, I
am registering the calls on caller ID. I've spoken to
Vonage tech support 3 times, but no fix.

My setup is as follows:

Linksys Cable Modem (BEFCMU10) -> Linksys Router
(WRT54G) to Linksys Phone Adapter (PAP2)


This is what I've done to troubleshoot:

1) Internet Connection - I've tested my connection on
the Vonage site, and my upload speed is 367 kbps. My
download speed is 3.46 Mbps. This is more than enough.

2) Phones - I've connected two different Vtech
chordless phones and 1 GE chorded phone. I have the
same result regardless of the phone.

3) Phone lines - I originally had my phones connected
through my house lines. I disconnected it from the
house lines and hooked up phones directly to my phone
adapter. I still have the same problem.

4) Phone Adapter - Initially, I had a WRT54GP2
router/adapter. After talking to tech support, I was
told the phone adapter must be defective. I replaced
it with a Linksys PAP2, but I still have the same
problem. Thus, it is not the adapter.

5) Router - I replaced my WRT54GP2 router with a
WRT54G router. Problem still there. I also removed the
router and connected the phone adapter straight to the
cable modem. Still have the problem. It is not the
router.

6) Cable Modem - After checking the internet
connection, phones, phone lines, adapter (2 different
adapters), and router (2 different routers), I figured
it must have something to do with the cable modem. I
went out and purchased a Motorola SB5120 cable modem
and installed it in place of the Linksys BEFCMU10.
However, I'm still having the same problem.

I'm at a complete loss. I've ruled out every piece of
hardware in my house and my internet connection. Does anyone have any thoughts?
