Vonage I use BitTorrent, and the WRTP54G has the Linksys default of maintaining connections

I use BitTorrent, and the WRTP54G has the Linksys default of maintaining connections for 5 days. The router worked just fine, until they upgraded to 1.00.52, then all holy hell broke loose. The Vonage side worked better, but the ROUTER side couldn't maintain stability under even the lightest BitTorrent load (15-20 connections MAX) for more than 12 hours or so. Sometimes, it would go down in a few hours. Once, when I turned of BitTorrent, it went four whole days.

I got a WRT54G, Loaded up HyperWRT Tofu 10, put the WRTP54G behind it, turned EVERYTHING on the WRTP54G off that I could find, and it's now a VERY nice Vonage device. Voice is cleaner than ever now that the WRTP54G doesn't have to waste processing cycles on anything but voice. Routing is 10 times more stable - no more reboots no more Internet loss. Everything is faster. I have working QoS. It's like night and day, baby. I can't believe I waited two months through that living hell, when Internet nirvana was $50 away.

If your WRTP54G works for you, then great. It's not a bad little router, emphasis on "little". But I would never, ever, recommend that anyone spend money, time, or effort consolidating their network to one, or trust it for any but the lightest demands (a few computers, surfing, downloading, etc). Even then, I needed the occasional reboot "just because".

If you have trouble with routing or stability on your WRTP54G, don't waste your time. Buy a WRT54G (pre V5, of course), a WRT54GL, or a WRT54GS. Load up aftermarket firmware. Get working QoS. Enjoy speed and stability that the WRTP54G cannot touch. Love the cleaner sound. Live the life. Don't look back. $50-75 buys you a lot of router, and a lot of peace of mind.

But if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you have a Vonage router, and you're happy with it, go with it. Until the next firmware upgrade, at least. (grin)

I don't need another one. But as I understand it, the Linksys Phone Adapter is not
I was directly talking to digitalvoice, not you. I answered you in the second post.
All right. I see.
They both come free :-)
You've probably seen me post this before, and if so I apologize for repeating myself.
Thanks NateHoy But you make a little worried. Do I have to expect problems
