I have had the service near a year and it has generally functioned a little better than a tin can and string *laughs, excepting the typical buggityboos that have come on a way too frequent basis. There has been no change in hardware configuration from the modem back, but issues continue to come and go on a steady basis. When it works it is fair and when it is quirky it is time consuming and diverts way too much attention to be worth paying for.
This morning I tried turning off voicemail and when I call my Vonage number I get a busy signal. I then powered down my Vonage router for a couple of minutes and them powered up. Now, thirty minutes later, when I lift the receiver on the Vonage line I get a busy signal.
My good old Sunrocket Voip set up is located (and has been) behind the same router and she has consistantly been working like a champ. I did switch internal phone systems between Vonage and Sunrocket and that was not the issue either.
We did call Vonage and apparently spoke with someone in India. After several minutes of trying to get someone to grasp what the issue is and dancing through the hoops out of their book the issue was not resolved.
We will call again and spend a little more time trying to fix things. If it becomes cumbersome I only have another month left on my obligation anyway so there should be no problem just jumping over to Sunrocket. It has been very reliable for me.
I am not slamming Vonage, I realize they are just trying to make a go of it like thousands of other businesses. I just don't have the spare time to play guessing games, search forums, do research or be a technician every time some anomaly occurs and they are just way to frequent and time consuming.
