I think it is unfair to ask people to stop whining. First because most of what you are commenting on is legitimate complaints and not whining and second, not having had problems, you have no standing to comment on their situation.

Complaining versus Whining

People are complaining when they are having problems and can't get adequate support from the company that is charging them a fee. It doesn't really matter if the problem is with their ISP, their home network or if a rat is living inside their phone, they have a right to expect a reasonable level of support. Vonage is not selling a niche techie product, they have ads on TV that have people claiming you just plug it in and it works. They, Vonage, set the level of expectations.

The whining I do hear comes actually from the techies. They want free SoftPhones or open SIP credentials. There is also some whining from the masses about ACR or outgoing caller ID. The reason that this becomes whining versus complaining is that there has been no public expectation set by Vonage that any of these features would be available.

There are really two distinctions between whining and complaining. The first is the maturity of the complaint and the second is the repetitiveness of it. By basing my argument on the expectations set by Vonage I am addressing the maturity element. With some gray areas (especially ACR) the initial complaint may be a legitimate complaint, but the sheer repetition has turned it to whining.

Purpose of this Forum

One of the main purposes of this forum is for Vonage users to assist other Vonage users. Not having had problems you may not see the need for this, that is why I say you lack standing. There are many people who have come here and gotten the help they needed to either get the service working, or to do something outside of what Vonage supports, for example hard wiring. Many of those people stay around and help other people, and if you are good at network troubleshooting then you may find it rewarding to do so yourself. But, please don't come and try to tell people not to seek assistance. I personally find it very rewarding, even fulfilling, when I can help someone get something working.

Yes, I share my vonage with my spouse. She's always on the phone while I'm surfing
