Vonage I think Vonage should NOT be giving out routers because of the problem this person

I think Vonage should NOT be giving out routers because of the problem this person is having (and me, and others). Whenever they give out a router, they basically ensure that the customer has to know a lot about networking just to make sure that the rest of his system will continue working. Vonage is taking on big troubleand responsibility by interrupting people's already existing networks, like this guy's. I've read things like "the customer support reps aren't networking engineers", but they HAVE TO BE if they are giving out routers!

I'm having similar trouble as you are, meatloaf, and turning off DHCP doesn't work because 1) I can't seemlessly move between wireless and wired with my laptop, 2) my network printer is hopelessly shunned from the network (and I can't figure out why), 3) applications that require port forwarding or triggering don't work (could this have something to do with your problems?), 4) I can't turn off the firewall on the linksys, and the linksys regulalry shuts down all traffic to all networked devices thinking it's some kind of intrusion, 5) there is some sort of strange, periodic interaction between the two routers causing BOTH to hang until rebooted. This is the worst problem, making my entire system basically unreliable.

I've seriously worked on this for some time every day for over a month now, and I can't get it to work. My setup is different than yours, but I see SO MANY people in these forums that have similar problems. I'm at the point now where I think that if you have wireless already (or want to get it), you're going to have problems with wireless devices talking to wired.

For you, you have to make sure that the router closest to the cable modem has certain ports open on the firewall, and also configure port forwarding. Did you do this? Here's the blurb on port forwading:
and here's the one on

Why the heck didn't I get a linksys PAP2 *as advertised*? I was told I would get a phone adapter, not a router, and I 'm really getting sore about it. A dumb phone adapter is what we ALL should have gotten. We'd network the phone adapter ON OUR OWN like any of our other computer devices.

Does anyone know how actually turn the linksys router into a dumb hub, meaning it doesn't firewall, doesn't do anything fancy itself (again, just turning off dhcp does NOT do it), and won't kill my other network devices or my main router?

If not, would anyone be interested in trading a linksys router for the linksys phone adapter?

Can I get my 2 networks talking?

I haven't found this in the forums yet, so maybe someone can shed some light on this. I
Turn off dhcp on the linksys router and give the linksys router an ip in the netgear
dpgearty, I take it your RT31P2 is closest to your cable modem?
My setup: CABLE modem -> Netgear WGR614 -> PC1, PC2, Linksys RT31P2
I am using a 2 router, 2 subnet setup which uses a LAN interface to Internet interface
But if you don't configure or use the internet connection, the RT31P2 won't be
Even though the Internet interface on the RT31P2 is not connected or configured,
I agree - I'm using too much of my time to figure this out. But I'm willing to spend
Forgive me if I am missing the point here. If they send you a PAP2, you would just
