After an afternoon of no connection I called up Comcast and they had me go through the routine. Then they wanted to hand me off to the Linksys support. What I wanted to know was why I was getting a 24.X.X.X on my directly connected computer but was getting a 64.X.X.X for an IP for my Linksys. She was talking about "my router was giving me that 64. IP." I was trying to convey to her that Comcast was giving my router that IP and my local network was 192.168.X.X not a 64. IP. After talking to the wall for 20 minutes I let her connect me to Linksys. Linksys support was pleasant and had do a clone which I never had done before and after that didn't work change my MTU to 1450. It could get a Comcast IP but no ping to yahoo or even to my Comcast default gateway. Linksys now wants me to return the router because it must defective.

I decided that the router could not be the problem after working for over a year and no changes on my side. I connected the Netgear router to the modem and it worked after cloning the MAC with no problems. I connected the Linksys behind the Netgear and shazam it starts to work also. I get dial tone and everything. I don't think this the best setup.

Detailed map of Lan setup
N= Netgear
L=Linksys Lan
LW = Linksys Wan
PC = Computer
WA = 802.11a Wireless Access Point
[] = Ethernet port

Modem -> Netgear [PC][WA][L][LW]

Since you got this far, I thank you. For my question:
Why is the Linksys not working connected directly to my modem and Comcast?
Is it because Comcast came out with Voip solution?
Are they in cahoots with ComEd my power just went out for 5 min too, for real?
