Vonage I'm trying to decide between purchasing Softphone or a second line for my business
I'm trying to decide between purchasing Softphone or a second line for my business calls (I already have a Vonage account for my home phone number).
I will use the second line to make a receive calls related to my consulting business. I work at home most of the time, but I travel within the U.S. about twice a month. I also travel outside the U.S. - to El Salvador - about twice a year, and I get a lot of phone calls FROM El Salvador. That's why I'm considering Softphone.
I need: 1) a cost-effective phone service for my home business
2) a way to make and receive phone calls inexpensively when I'm traveling in the U.S. and El Salvador
3) (if possible) a way for folks in El Salvador to call me inexpensively. Most of the work we do there is with organizations that are quite resource poor, and the cost of a phonecall to the U.S. from a Salvadoran land line can run around $30 to $50 for just a few minutes. That's practically a week's salary for a Salvadoran.
Has anyone in this forum ever used the Softphone in a developing country like El Salvador? I'm worried about access to broadband while I'm there. Will my 'Softphone work if I just have a dial-up connection?
Has anyone ever figured out how to get a phone number that would be local from a developing country? Is it possible to have 2 numbers on Softphone?
If none of this is feasible, it would probably be a better deal to just stick with the second line. I'll be interested in hearing from folks that have any kind of related experience.
