Vonage I'm running an SMP3, admittedly somewhat close to its limits, but close 'nuf,

I'm running an SMP3, admittedly somewhat close to its limits, but close 'nuf, these are pretty rugged devices and the SMP3 can handle up to 5 amp momentarily. For what you're looking at, I'd suggest an SMP5, which is rated for 4a continuous. The "problem" with going to that large of a PS/charger is that all of the 110vAC->16/24/28VAC transformers at that size are probably going to be open-frame, not a huge deal, just means you'll want an enclosure to keep prying fingers & paws away from the terminals.

I went with SMP3 because I needed a small (~3"x3"), lightweight 12v PS. I bought a bunch of them for converting out older Compaq Presario 2200's into a poor man's Bose Wave radio. I take these Compaqs, gut everything but the speakers & CD-ROM, throw a T-Amp inside, do a little mucking around with the speakers and add some equalization (correction in this case) and you've got one heck of a little boombox. With 8 AA batteries, it runs for ~20 hrs. With an 8Ah 12v battery it runs for weeks. Side-by-side, by the time I'm done with them, they sound MUCH better (clearer, even deeper bass) than the Bose units, but they can't quite go as loud, still more than loud enough for even a large bedroom 'though. If you've not used a T-amp yet, they're surprisingly good. It's not close to my studio reference amps, *BUT* it costs EXPONENTIALLY less, and for the $30 price, it's probably better than most commercial/pro amplifiers under $500, if not under $1k. Probably better than most consumer equipment under $2-3k.

I've had a few of the Compaqs arrive a bit too damaged to use as-is, and we've taken those apart, extracted the speakers & pseudo-subwoofer and installed those in offices and office building lobbies where aesthetics were priority #1, performance was somewhere down the list. Price was right, and they're small enough to hide in plants, air vents, etc.

I have all of my Altronix & pricing info at work, but considering I get the stuff at cost, I can probably beat most of the online place prices. There also might be a better (and cheaper) supply for your than the SMP series. I'll post more later on tonight when I get home.

Um, no. APC is American Power Conversion, and their stuff is at www.apcc.com.
I tried the upc and after about 10 or 15 min. it stopped. I wonder if it has a timer
One thing to keep in mind. If your neighborhood's power grid goes down, most likely
