Vonage I'm no network expert. I read a bunch of posts in various forums and here's the simplest

I'm no network expert. I read a bunch of posts in various forums and here's the simplest way I've found to make it work without disturbing an existing router. I've tried to word everything as simple as possible and start from the time the Linksys RT31P2 still has factory settings...

PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

These instructions assume the Linksys RT31P2 still has the factory settings. If you’ve already changed the settings, you can reset to factory settings by holding down the Reset button at the back of the router for 10 seconds. If you already have your Voip service working with the Linksys RT31P2 router, you can skip to STEP 2.

STEP 1: Getting the Linksys RT31P2 to connect to the Internet and getting Voip to work with your phone (without your existing router).

You’ll need to write down some information from your existing router. DSL users: write down your username and password. Cable users: write down the router’s MAC address. Everyone: write down the DNS addresses from your existing router’s settings.

Unplug the Internet (WAN) cable from the back of your existing router and plug it into the Linksys RT31P2’s Internet jack. (This is the cable that connects your DSL/cable modem to your existing router.)

Unplug the cable that connects your computer to your existing router. Connect the cable from your computer to jack 1, 2 or 3 behind the Linksys RT31P2.

Open your Web browser and go to 192.168.15.1 to access the Linksys RT31P2. Use admin/admin as the username/password.

Configure the Linksys RT31P2 to connect with the Internet.
DSL users: Select PPPoE next to Internet Connection Type, click Save Settings at bottom.
Cable users: Click the MAC Address Clone tab, select Enable next to MAC Clone Service, enter the MAC address from your existing router (do not click the “Clone” button as that will change the MAC you just entered), click Save Settings.
If DNS addresses were required in your existing router, enter those addresses into the Linksys RT31P2’s settings as well. Remember to click Save Settings.

Open your Web browser and visit some websites to ensure connection to the Internet is successful. The power light on the Linksys RT31P2 router may blink for up to 5 minutes while it communicates with your Voip service provider for updates/settings. Once the power light has stopped blinking, plug a telephone into the Linksys RT31P2’s telephone 1 or 2 jack. Pick up the telephone handset and check for a dial tone.

(At this time, you can either leave the Linksys RT31P2’s password and IP address as set by the factory or change it to your preference.)

Step 2: Getting the Linksys RT31P2 to work with your existing router. (If you skipped Step 1: write down the DNS addresses from your existing router. Then unplug the cable that connects your computer to your existing router and connect the cable from your computer to jack 1, 2 or 3 of the Linksys RT31P2.)

Access the Linksys RT31P2: Open your Web browser and enter the IP address of the Linksys RT31P2 (the default address is 192.168.15.1). Enter the username/password (default is admin/admin).

Select Static IP from the drop-down list next to Internet Connection Type.

Next to IP Address, enter an internal IP address. (I used 192.168.1.20 because my existing router’s DHCP is set to assign IP addresses from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.20. You can try this address as well. If it doesn’t work, you’ll have to look into your existing router’s DHCP settings to determine what IP address to use.)

Leave Subnet Mask as 255.255.255.0.

Default Gateway is the IP address of your existing router. (This is the IP address you enter into your browser to access your existing router.)

Enter the DNS address(es). (You wrote these down earlier from your existing router).

Click “Save Settings” at the bottom of page.

Unplug the cable from the Internet jack behind the Linksys RT31P2 and plug it back into your existing router’s Internet (WAN) jack.

Connect a network cable from any jack on your existing router (other than WAN/Internet) to the Internet jack of the Linksys RT31P2.

Pick up the telephone handset and check for a dial tone. If you hear a dial tone, all is well.

You can now disconnect your computer from the Linksys RT31P2 and plug it back into your existing router.

Use the Linksys RT31P2 as a switch only?

a topic similiar to this one has already been created 3 months ago, but the answer
as a side note, i do realize i can purchase a standalone switch and split the connection
No. Although your machine hanging off the RT31 is working to the internet,
if that is true, i wonder if the RT31P2 is hard wired not to look for internet access
Although your machine hanging off the RT31 is working to the internet, that is
reading that and trying to understand your reasoning, doesnt make sense, there
See if this works: 1. Disable NAT and DHCP on the RT31P2 2. Connect a patch
Let me try to clarify. For the sake of our discussion, the LinkyRT31 routes
FIRST OFF, thanks 200 to Blademan for that post, im pretty sure i would of given
LOL i fixed it 2 hours ago, and it took me 10 minutes to write my post, and it looks
