I just got and set up a Linksys WRTP54G from Vonage. As a Voip product, it works just find but when it comes to how it handles my internet connection there are some issues. I was hoping someone on this sight might be able to lend some insight on my problems.

I have cable internet with a 5MB advertised upstreem. When I connect my computer via Ethernet cable to just the modem and run a speed test, i get about 550K (right on the money for what i should be getting. The same is true when I connect my computer via Ethernet into my router. However, when I disconnect the Ethernet cable and attempt to connect wirelessly, I run my speed tests and get only 150K-200K (quite a drop off).

I have made sure my computer is connected "Excellent" and it is in line of sight about 6' away from the router. There are no cordless phones or microwaves in sight as well are no other SSID signals around. I have also tested the connection on ever channel available with no improvement. Also, according to the router setup page i have Firmware Version: 1.00.62 and that seems to be as up to date as it gets.

I spoke with what Linksys calls their support and they had me tweak my Beacon Interval from 100 to 50, my Fragmentation Length from 2346 to 2306, and my RTS Threshold from 2347 to 2307. Sadly none of that has done anything. They also had me change my MTU from Auto to manual and set it down at 1450 and then when that did not help to 1428 (also no help).

Does anyone know what this issue may be due to and how to perhaps fix it? Thanks very much for taking the time!
