I just canceled my 30-day trial period recently after 18 days of toying with it, explaining to the customer service rep that it was due to my internet connection not being able to handle it, as it keeps cutting out (I live in the boonies and use cellular broadband), but otherwise had no other complaints. I was even considering signing up again once I moved to a place with a connection that could handle it better; however, I'm finding their cancellation method a bit disturbing and not something you would think a company would do to keep or even bring back customers.
I read the TOS with the half assumption that any cancellation fees brought on might be for after the 30-day trial had expired-after all, it's a trial. So, there's some point loss, but not even the point that I'm making and, again, it was an assumption. However, the reps claim that this charge will be refunded after you've returned your device. Now, I could see this happening if I had actually gotten an expensive router that had a form of rebate/discount/free-of-charge for it or, more appropriately, charging said fees if the device was not returned in the 14-day period, but why a $30 V-phone that has been purchased in full during signiup??
The excuse makes no sense to me at all, and frankly sounds shady. In fact, I would have happily eaten the money that it cost for the V-phone and kept for potential future use, even their sign-up fees, which seems almost more reasonable than incurring a cancellation charge in the first place for a trial run, refund or not, and that the refund is dependent on something that I've paid for in full...not to mention have to pay to ship back to them.
Alright, fine. So I have to be charged and wait for refund that doesn't make sense to begin with-though now I've just read a few horror stories here, going from Vonage not accepting courier delivery to not refunding your money until you've harassed them to death. Hopefully, that much is no longer an issue. I just find this as a major turnoff when even thinking about signing up again, and now I'm just wishing I had found this forum (or more, the related posts) before I had signed up.
