Just as it would have been unreasonable 100 years ago to expect someone to give you a free device you could just plug into copper wire based outlets and have it work with no hassle. Like it or not, new things come with growing pains.
You seem awfully high on your own company, but I GUARANTEE that your company (or any other, for that matter) cannot make ANY product that is 100% operationally dependent on MULTIPLE third party products and services over which you have ABSOLUTELY no control and have it work reliably 100% of the time.
And, again whether you like it or not, Vonage is just that - the proper operation of Vonage at your house depends ABSOLUTELY on multiple items beyond Vonage's control (Your router, your modem, your electricity, your Internet connection, your ISP's router, your ISP's electricity, your ISP's internet backbone connection . . . and on and on).
Remember - up until old fashioned residential phone service was well over 50 years old, the phone company pretty much owned (and thereby controlled and serviced) virtually EVERY element of what it took to give you a dialtone at your house - the phone you had sitting in your house, the jack in the wall that it was wired (by them) into, the wire running out of your house, the wire running through your neighborhood, into the central office owned, operated, and serviced by the phone company . . . and on and on - they owned it all, controlled it all, and serviced it all.
I agree, as most on this forum do, that Vonage needs to work seriously on addressing customer service problems.
But I don't agree for one minute that this service should be as absolutely simple and trouble free as you seem to expect. I'd love it to be, don't get me wrong, but I don't consider it a problem that it is not. Vonage's CUSTOMER service - that's a problem. Vonage's service . . . not a problem.
