Vonage I have to reboot (power down and power up) both the WRTP54G router and the cable

I have to reboot (power down and power up) both the WRTP54G router and the cable modem every couple of days to avoid having a 30 second delay between answering a call and being able to speak to the calling person. The problem also occurs when making a call. What's causing this problem and what is the solution (besides rebooting)?
