I have the same problem. I have a security gate where visitors call from a box that rings my phone. I can talk to them and press 9 to open the gate. The strange thing is, it worked "ok", like every other time, when I first got Vonage 6 months ago. Now it never works. My phone rings, caller id shows it as the gate, then when I answer the phone I hear a click and the line is dead. The caller at the box gets a message on the screen that the line is busy. I contacted Vonage tech support via email. At first they said they had some problems with touch tones, but that wouldn't explain the way the call was handled by the Vonage phone modem. Then I got an email reply from Vonage that said ...
"In regards to your email, I have made changes to your device regarding this problem. Please be advised that Vonage can not support a system like this and there are no troubleshooting steps we can provide regarding this."
It still doesn't work at all.
I didn't change my phone number when I switched to Vonage, so there was no change made to the security gate box. There are residents here who have the security gate call their cell phones, and that works fine. So the security gate works on a land line and on a cell phone, but not on a Vonage Voip phone. Or at least not on mine.
I have a Motorola SurfBoard cable modem feeding a Motorola VT1005 phone modem, that feeds a Uniden multi-handset phone system and a Linksys wireless router.
I tried forwarding my Vonage line to my cell phone to see it that would work, but there isn't any difference. Evidently the forwarded call goes initially to the phone modem then to the cell phone, The home/Vonage phone rings once, and the cell phone never rings (only for the security gate ... the call forwding works fine for all other calls).
If anyone has any ideas or words of wisdom I'd love to hear them.
I'm going to try switching the number that the gate calls to my cell phone, which isn't a good solution for situations when I'm unable to answer my cell phone and my wife is at home expecting a visitor to call from the gate.
