Vonage I have the same issue as others - the VWR setting changes get lost when power is disconnected

I have the same issue as others - the VWR setting changes get lost when power is disconnected from the unit. Worse, when it comes back on it is a wide open access point. No security. Very frustrating.

It was also very frustrating to try to reconfigure and find that the settings weren't sticking in some instances. Specifically, changes I made to wireless SSID and security weren't applying. Here's a solution that worked for me for this problem, at least.

1) Connect to the router via a cable (turn off your wireless connection if you have one, if you are connected via wireless it won't let you save the wireless settings changes or won't consistently let you save them)
2) Enter the router (default IP is 192.168.15.1 - just enter the IP into your browser, when the router login comes up the default username is "user" and default password is "user")
- you may have to manually set your PC IP to 192.168.15.2, subnet 255.255.255.0 to get connected because DHCP on the router is also sometimes flaky.

3) Make the changes. You may have to toggle the "Enable AP" button, clicking "Apply" in between.

In the end you should have "Enable AP" checked and the SSID and security settings you desire.

Again, the key is DO NOT connect via wireless and attempt to change the wireless settings. I did that for several minutes thinking it'd be find, I'd just get kicked off when the router resets to make my changes. Wrong. It just acts like you didn't make the change. I did the above and everything applied.

Now, if it'd just remember my settings when the power cycles it'd be a fine unit. I guess I'm going to have to go the UPS route. That's another $60 or so but worth it to avoid having to reconfigure routinely and to improve the wife acceptance factor.

P.S. Here's a tip on setting wireless security. It is best to use WPA2+AES but remember to configure the router and your PC(s). The other wireless security protocols have all been cracked to varying degrees. "WEP makes me weep, WPA and you're OK" is a good trick to remember. Recently, though, WPA + TKIP has been partly hacked. It's still very good for all but most determined hackers. WPA2 + AES is still rock solid.
