I have the exact problem with my RTP300, FW 1.01.07. Static only on my end. I can hear the other person fine but there is static on my end. I even have static when I unpluged the RTP300 from the internet. The only cables I plugged in were the power cable and an RJ11 cable to a corded phone directly to line 1. I tried 2 different RJ11 cables and 2 different phones. When you pick up the receiver on the telephone, you hear a pre-recorded message about the network being unavailable. I still had static, even though the RTP300 was not connected to the internet! Trying to explain this to Vonage tech support was very painful! After 2 hours and multiple call backs, then being transferred to advanced tech support and being hung up on, I got real pissed and told them they either send me a new phone adapter or I would be switching back to Verizon. A new RTP300 is on the way. They also gave me another option by giving me a $40 credit and I could purchase a new phone adapter. I'll try the new RTP300 first. I have had Vonage for a little over a year and it has been great until the past month or so when it started with the static problem. I thought it was something Comcast was doing. I had read a previous post about using a different power supply as the RTP300 PS is grounded. I tried my WRT54GS supply which is not grounded but 12V and 1000 mA. I still had the static problem. The new RTP300 should be here in 2 days. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem. The tech also informed me the PAP2 V2 has a newer TI chipset. I'll switch to it if I still have problems.
I tried to get them to give me a different model but they would not. I had the same experience with the static going away sometimes after power cycling but it always came back.
