Vonage I have gotten no where with Linksys. Can someone please explain why the following

I have gotten no where with Linksys. Can someone please explain why the following set up will not work and how to make it work. I have never used ethernet and do not know the tech. details of how it works. I connect to the internet with a Linksys WUSB54G adapter, the wi fi system is supplied by the RV park I live in. I want to connect the router to the ethernet connection on my computer. When I do this the windows indicator shows a connection, but the Vonage phone will not work. I have connected to both the LAN and internet ports.

Hey sampson1943,

I think I see what you are trying to do now. Your setup looks like the following: Community Wi-fi connectivity -> Linksys WUSB54G adapter on your PC -> RT31P2 (which is connected to your computer ethernet connection; aka the PC network adapter's RJ-45 connection), right?

If this is the case, I hope you are running Windows XP. In Windows XP, open your network connections folder. Right click or access the properties of the wired connection (usually named "Local Area Connection"). Click on advanced and select "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" under Internet Connection Sharing subsection. I would advise deselecting the following option allowing other network users to control or disable the shared internect connection. If it does not solve your problem, try rebooting/resetting everything (including the PC) after making the changes. If it still does not work, you may have to follow the steps on the wireless connection properties as well (either in combination or solo).

That is the best and only solution I can think of at this moment without you having to purchase additional equipment. I'll post again if I can think of another solution.

P.S. Be sure the connection between the computer/PC and the Linksys RT31P2 is correct. In this case, you will want the network cable to connect to the WAN port of the RT31P2. I assume there is only one network cable connection (RJ-45) available on the PC.

If you are not running Windows XP, please post your operating system and someone might be able to help you out. Oh yeah, watch the bold in your posts. I think it is against the forum rules to post in all bold. You risk your post being deleted. Have a nice day.
