Vonage I have figured the lost dial tone problem (see my posts above). For some reason

I have figured the lost dial tone problem (see my posts above). For some reason you have to put your network router in front of the Linksys phone adapter. There are several other posts where people have suggested this solution, though Vonage installation instructions and many Vonage Gurus say otherwise.

This is what it should be to get the firmware update and reinstate a dial tone:
Internet>Modem>Network Router>Phone Adapter

in my case
Internet>Modem>Airport Extreme (wireless)>LynksysRT31P2

Once I did this and I rebooted the phone adapter the Firmware was updated from 1.26 to 1.27 and the dial tone returned. I do not understand why this would work but it did.

People will have different Network Routers and are on different platforms so will have to figure out how to configure their particular router and phone adapter to put them in this order. Conceptually, it seems to me, the Phone Adapter becomes part of the network rather than creating the network. This may create problems down the line but it seemed to do the trick for now. And I hope it points people in the right direction to find a solution for themselves. I wish I could help more since there is little help available from Vonage (see comment below).

I also tried removing the Network Router from the configuration for several nights when I did not need my computer to be connected to the internet. In other words:
Internet>Modem>Phone Adpater
Needless to say I rebooted before and after every configuration change. Unaccountably this did not solve the problem. It should not be necessary to be part of a network for the Phone Adapter to work.

I am not a network administrator and had to fumble through many experiments and spent hours looking through this forum and others to find a solution. I was never able to reach a Vonage representative by phone, I never recieved a response (other than a form letter) to my email requests to Vonage. There are several posts on this topic in this forum and I did not see one helpful response from a Vonage representative and there are certainly none in this thread. I also noticed that there are NO links to the Vonage forum from vonage.com.

It took me 15 hours over 5 days to troubleshoot this. If I were not a little geeky and very persistent I would not have been able to solve this problem. With a little help I expect this could have been solved in a hof hour or so. After this experience, I would not recommend Vonage to an average non-technical consumer. Good luck to all of you trying to troubleshoot a Vonage problem.
