Vonage I have been unable to determine the correct wiring layout sequence for using a

I have been unable to determine the correct wiring layout sequence for using a Fax machine for shared faxing with 2 Vonage voice lines. The Fax is not installed on a dedicated line. It must share one of the voice lines.

The overall system uses 2 separate Uniden UIP 1869V console phones. Each console has a unique built-in router and internal phone adapter. There are 2 RJ-11 line outputs on each console, however, only the line 1 jack on each phone console is actually live and available. The current wiring sequence is as follows:

1. Motorola 5100 Cable Modem (Optimum Online) w/ substantial bandwidth and speed
2. SonicWall SOHO3 Firewall Internet Security Device
3. Cisco Model 2050 24 port switch
4. Two Vonage lines w/ separate ethernet hard wired direct to WAN of each Uniden 1869V console
5. Vonage Call Hunting installed from line 1 to line 2 w/Voicemail back to line 1 phone console if both phones are not answered (in sequence).
6. Fax Machine (Panasonic KX-FHD331) hard wired from Phone 1 port of 2nd Uniden 1869V console.
7. Fax machine receives and transmits without any issues.

The problem arises when a regular call (no fax tone) is received and hunts to line 2 on the 2nd Uniden console. The 2nd phone console rings and, if unanswered promptly, after the set number of rings selected in the fax machine setup protocol, the fax machine automatically intercepts the call and the #2 phone console hangs up. This occurs even though no fax tone is actually present.

I had assumed that, in the absence of a fax tone, the unanswered regular call would be directed to the normal Voicemail in the Hunt sequence. This is not the result which is occurring.

I have also tried to insert a Command Communications ComSwitch 5500 to achieve the discrimination of the fax tone. I could not find a way to fit this "call direct" unit into the wiring diagram. When it was placed after the 2nd console and before the fax machine, no signal was transmitted through the Comswitch. A regular phone did not deliver a dial tone when connected to this device. Any suggestions on this configuration would be appreciated.

Does any one have any other wiring sequence which may achieve the desired result of either routing the unanswered call (which has hunted to line 2 on the 2nd console) to Voicemail or, directing the call to the fax machine only in the event that a fax tone is detected (after the designated number of rings).

For the record, each individual piece of equipment works very well and the phone QoS is excellent. The magic will be to identify the best and most efficient way to coordinate them in an orderly fashion and produce a proper result.

I haven't seen any posts about that. If you have a device in mind, tell us how it works.

I read the manual for this device. It specifically said that it picked up the phone
