I have been a Vonage subscriber since May and I must say, I'm not very please with the service. My internet usage slows to a halt and I must reboot the voice terminal & or cable modem and router to get my internet service back.

Also, callers complain that there's static when I talk or they are unable to hear me.

I must admit, I am using a cheap 900MHz phone by BellSouth. It worked OK over regular phoneline though. I plan to purchase a 5.8 phone soon. The only problem with that is I read to a lot of 5.8GHz phones still either transmitter or receive at 2.4GHz which causes problems with my wireless router.

I'm located in St. Peters, MO.

My ISP is Charter.

My hardware is:
Motorola Surfboard 4100 cable modem (Owned since 2001)
Motorola VT1005 voice terminal
Netgear MR814 Wireless Router (Owned since 2002)

My setup is:
Cable Modem->VT1005->Wireless Router

The VT1005 is handling all routing running DHCP. The MR814 is running as a wired/wireless switch or access point with a static IP. My office pc and server both have static IPs. Our laptops run wireless with dynamic IPs.

I ran the Voip testes on this board and came up with the following:
Download 3,033,128 bps
Upload 242,528 bps
QOS 99%
RTT 36 ms
MaxPause 127 ms
Jitter 4.7ms
Packet Loss 0.0%

MOS score estimate: 4.0

The test says: "we estimate that your Internet connection can support a maximum of 3 simultaneous high quality Vonage® Voip connections."

I also ran the test at testyourVoIP.com. The results of the test was 4.2.

It looks like I'm passing with flying colors. Based on the tests, although my equipment may be old, it's functioning properly.

When I lose the Internet sometimes I can just go into the VT1005 advanced properties page and click reboot to reset the VT1005. After a minute or two all is well.

But sometimes I need to unplug everything to get my internet service back.

I have connected Vonage Tech Supp once when this occurred. But before I called I performed a test by connecting my laptop directly to the cable modem to verify the cable service wasn't down. The laptop connected to the internet instantly.

Tech Supp had me override the MAC address in the VT1005 with the MAC address of my laptop.

Things were stable for a less than a week before the problem started occurring again.

I would like to keep the service but this is too much of a pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you say "move VT inside my router", are you saying your set up is Modem->router->VT? M
