I have Qwest DSL with an Actiontec modem and the Motorola VT1005 adapter. They are configured as follows:

-> DSL modem -> Vonage TA -> Ethernet switch -> everything else

Most of the time everything works, and it works very well. My current issue is that whenever I boot up a WinXP computer on my network, the Motorola VT1005 crashes (no dial tone and it goes into the flashing power light, startup routine).

If left alone, it will take 10 to 15 minutes to restart and give me a dial tone again. However, I can unplug its power and replug it in and it will be working in about a minute.

This only happens when I boot up a WinXP machine. It doesn't happen with the Win2K or the Win98SE computers that I have on my network. It will alsohappen when I disconnect the VT1005 from my network and connect a WinXP directly to the TA.

I seem to remember an older Windows version that would let you boot in a special mode to allow loading one driver or device at a time from the configuration files. That way I could find out what was loading up that was killing the Motorola TA. I haven't figured out how to do that in Windows XP.

Has anyone else had this problem? How can I fix it?

TIA

Booting WinXP computers causes Vonage TA to crash

From Windows Help To start the computer in safe mode You should print these
It sounds like you are remembering "Step-By-Step Confirmation" from Windows
Thanks navydavy, I have used the safe mode but it was the "Step-By-Step Confirmation"
BS, I just tried it. Hit F8 at boot up and it does the exact same thing as 95 and 98.
I had this trouble as well bt with a PAP2 adapter. Try doing this it worked for me.....DSL
Not sure what you did at home, but Windows XP absolutely does not offer the "Step
Router? You mean my switch? Remember my configuration is: -> DSL modem
Hooray!! I think it is working properly. I got tired of doing a power reset
