I have FiOS service, and the router is on the 2nd floor of my townhouse. For the last few years, I've had a Vonage adapter connected to the FiOS router and a cordless phone (with two handsets) connected to the adapter.
Recently, I created a home office in my basement, and I've been using one of the cordless handsets there. I'm finding that the phone connections are not completely reliable. Everything sounds OK to me, but the other party often tells me that the sound from my end is "breaking up."
I'd like to avoid moving the router or doing anything else that would require new wiring. I'm wondering whether I could move the Vonage adapter to the basement and link it to the router (two floors above) using a wireless ethernet bridge, a wifi range extender or powerline networking. This would let me move the telephone base unit to the basement, which I hope will fix my problem.
One more option is to use wireless phone jacks to link a phone in the basement to the unit upstairs (and leave the Vonage adapter where it is), but I've heard that these are prone to interference, so I might just end up trading one problem for another.
Any thoughts / advice?
