I had some problems a while back with my ISP (that's why I didn't post here). I would drop Vonage connection from time to time for no reason yet my internet connection would stay up.

My son (who is a BS in Computer Engineering) said I may be dropping packets. He told me to go to a command line window, then type in "ping -t www.google.com". This continuously pings a solid website and looks for dropped packets.

WELL!! I was seeing from 12% to over 70% dropped packets. I called my ISP (Brighthouse) and they came out and said it was my equipment. My son was there and he blew up at the guy and showed him the dropped packets and challenged him on why they would claim it is not their problem without testing.

Long story short, the guy was extremely intimidated by my son and went back and got additional support. The ISP called me that evening and said they found the problem and would I please test it. It was ZERO packet loss! After that, we worked flawlessly (until the other day).

All is well right now in my home and my ISP (and Vonage!)
