First, it's not secure anyway, second, I don't know how it would apply in terms of a router, and third, it's being compared to 32 bit encryption, which isn't employed ANYWHERE any more as far as I know...

The data loss is almost certainly not due to any encryption, at least nothing the router is introducing. If the router is set up as a VPN client or something, it's only encrypting to the Internet pipe, at which point it can't be encrypted. So unless you are trying to hide your activities from others on the local segment (and I'd seriously question why you want to do that), I doubt there's any real encryption going on at all.

I'd see about putting the Vonage router right at the "T1" connection, which I'm beginning to suspect is not a "T1" but some sort of campus or other large-pipe connection. At which point, VPN connection to the Internet makes sense, but not at 64 bits, that's just too easy to break. Plus, if properly configured, even 128 bit encryption is not going to cause that sort of data loss.

Anyway, you'll need to look at the configuration of your current router. There are probably some settings in it that need to be copied over to the Vonage router (username, password, etc if this is a PPPOE connection, for example).
