Vonage I got it working finally. THANK YOU VERY MUCH :) :) The setup is: DSL modem

I got it working finally. THANK YOU VERY MUCH :) :)

The setup is:
DSL modem -> Linksys WAN port (router set to my static IP)
Linksys port 1 -> WAN port of MTA (set as dynamic)
Linksys port 2,3,4-> other PCs, network printer

When I put Linksys port 1 into the PC port of the MTA it didn't work, no dial tone and the MTA wouldn't sync up with Vonage (there is a series of flashing lights that it goes through and each flash pattern means something different). I finally got the steady green light and was able call as usual. HURRAH!

My web server is at http://circuitm.homeip.net (can you see it?) Right now I'm connect to the Internet via a VPN connection which goes through my employer's site. I know that if I can see the web server from the VPN connection, it's got to work for others too.

The name above is what I get from my account on www.dynDNS.org. I use Abyss web server (free, very easy to setup, has lots of features) instead of IIS. Actually, I only use this server to host one page of my husband's hosted web site (for his home-based company). There is special software that this server runs that we couldn't load on the hosted (and shared) web server so I had to set up a personal web server for that one page. His site has one link that points to http://circuitm.homeip.net and that then allows the user to run software that demos sample apps he wrote using LabView (from National Instruments, www.ni.com).

I only use the Abyss web server as a test for now (which is why I didn't want to bother with IIS - overkill for me). The real purpose is the built-in web server for the LabView software which we have. Now that I know Abyss is visible to the world, I can shut it down and fire up the LabView web server and just leave the PC running.

One port on my Linksys died so I ordered an 8 port version since I like having 1-2 extra ports. I need 1 port for the MTA, 1 for a network printer, 1 for my web server, and 3 others for various PCs.

You asked for some photos of the MTA and my setup so I'll put them on your FTP site. I have a digital camera so will take some in the next 1-2 days.

Even though this is all working, I'd still like to know what I did wrong such that I couldn't get dynDNS.org working when I had a dynamic IP address from my ISP. I read through all the FAQs on their site and other sites and still I must of messed up somewhere because I could never get it to work. I even had that freePing.exe thing that other DDNS sites mentioned to keep the address stable (keep it from being re-assigned due to inactivity). I'd *almost* be willing to revert back to a dynamic IP to see how it all works BUT it's been since March 9 that my Vonage + static IP problems started so I'm not about to kick myelf any more than I already have. It works, don't *fix* it again, ya know? Today is the first day that everything works. :!: :!: I can finally resume normal life....

Thank you,
Deb
