I don't have the info here in front of me but when I go back to work on Monday I have a spreadsheet with most cable modems and their docsis versions. I'm pretty sure I've dealt with this thompson/rca modem before and I seem to recall two versions, depending on the serial #. They were 1.0 or 2.0 depending on when they were made. IT may be a 50/50 chance...

And to the guy who asked what docsis iw...Stands for Data Over Cable Internet Systems - it's what effectively sends the packets of info across into the net. If you have an older version it wont handle the required number of packets per second ( or milisecond ) to make Vonage work well. It's like firmware sort of but you can't usually flash a new version to your modem, so to answer your question you may have to upgrade or buy a new modem. But before you do anything, I will check for you on Monday to see if there were 2 versions for your modem and if there were - how to distinguish which one you've got - Blackjack could very well be right - in which case there is somthing else causing the dropped audio...

A few things I know will cause dropped calls are;

- if your device overheats it resets itself - will cause the call to drop - make sure your device is well ventilated and seperated from other device . Don't install it on top of other electronic devices - if you touch it and it feels warm to you ( it may be slightly warmer than room temp but shouldn;t be much more than that )

- If you use cordless phones and have a wireless router, make sure the phones aren't 2.4Ghz phones as they will compete for the same frequency as the router ( and the router will win ) - IF you do have this situation, the only solution is new phones - even go so far as to remove the batteries from the handsets when you remove the 2.4Ghz phones.

- If you are using splitters, home wiring, wireless jacks or have any other set-up besides a phone connected directly into the back of the adapter, try testing with a single phone plugged in to the back of the Vonage device - It may isolate where the problem is. If you're ok when it's one phone only in the back of the adapter, it could be an indication that you have some faulty wiring somewhere or that Vonage needs to increase the voltage coming out of the back of the device. If you're using your home's wiring the voltage should almost certainly be increased.
