I can't imagine anyone getting a quiet LinkSys RT31P2 router as I have my third without any real difference in the reduction of the background noise. I think it is a LinkSys issue and Vonage is trying their very best to live with their contract with LinkSys, but leading us customers along in the process. I have also placed a standard telephone connector on the second line jack to reduce the background noise on the first jack. I placed a 100K ohm resistor across mine to make it much more acceptable. I personally do not recommend the shorting of the wires. A 50K to 100K resistor across the wires of the connector is my recommendation.

I have moved my number that I have had since 1974 and only hope that things will actually improve over time. Don't get me wrong, they are real good now, but some of the few poor connections I experience hopefully will be minimized in the future. So far so good. Vonage definitely is a great value overall, even if it is not quite, very close though, as good as the old land line at the moment.
