I assme you have three ports on your router connected to three computers. You have the 4th port connected to your VT2142 and then your 4th computer connected to the ethernet port on the VT2142.

If so, the three computers should share files with each other, but the VT2142 has a different IP range, so the computer connected to it will not see the other computers.

For instance say the router uses 192.168.55.xxx, the VT2142 will set 192.168.15.2 for its ethernet port, which is not in the 192.168.55.xxx range.

If I am correct in my description of your set up, move the VT2142 in front of your router, after your cable box. Connect the 4 computers to the router as you had done so before.

If you have port forwarding enabled on your existing router, set the same port forwarding on the VT2142 to 192.168.15.2 which will then allow your router to continue the forwards.
