Vonage I am trying to get Vonage Adapter to work at India with Tata Indicom at my parents.



I am trying to get Vonage Adapter to work at India with Tata Indicom at my parents. I believe I have read through all the posts in this forum on this subject. Having problems still, hope some one can help. Its hard to get folks back home to follow the technical stuff from the US. Spent a day and a half, all my night awake...still no luck. Setup is like this.

1. MODEM (Has one Ethernet out line)

2. Xavi Bridge Router- x7721r (Has one Ethernet out line)

3. A new Netgear Switch 5ports (5 Ethernet ports)

4. PC connected to above Netgear Switch

5. Vonage Adapter connected to Netgear switch

PC has connection Icon to Tata Indicom with user ID and password.
Only on connection through this icon, can one access internet.

Icon Connection properties are:-
Connection to VSNL_xxxxx properties

Device Type: isdn
Server Type: PPP
Authentication: PAP
Server IP: 202.xx.xxx.xx
Client IP: assigned each time, changes
VIA Compatible Fast Ethernet Adapter
Phone#: VSNL_xxxxG3

IP Address of Bridge/Router: 192.168.1.1 (Default) Gateway
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Xavi bridge/router IP is 192.168.1.1 I can logon to its Admin page and see all the settings that Tata Indicom have set for this ADSL Bridge/Router.

e.g. VPI 0,
VCI 32,
QOS:
UBR,
PCR: 2000
SCR:0 MBS:0
Encapsulation: LLL
Connection Type: RFC 1483 BRIDGE
Packet Filter: All

It seems configured as a BRIDGE and not as Router.
Has both capabilities though.

DNS Server IP: 202.x.xxx.x and
202.x.xxx.x

I went through the steps of checking the Linksys PAP2 adapter, IP, gateway etc and finally set it as static IP, static gateway and now both POWER and ETHERNET LEDs are blue glowing. But LINE1 is not on. Static IP I set was 192.168.1.xxx, Gateway set same as 192.168.1.1 as the IPCONFIG from command prompt showed.

Possible Next Steps:
1. Read that one can do port forwarding for Vonage 5060 - 5061 for Line1 in Linksys manual.

2. Also read that one can turn the router to not require user id / login and remain connected always. Do not know how to do this with this modem. Does any one know looking at the link below?

Here is a different Bridge/Router by one model number, but is almost similar interface to what we have.

3. Vonage had a help page that has a step to just connect the PC to the Linksys PAP2 adapter and then from Internet Explorer type 192.168.15.1. Then on the Linksys Adapter status page, go and set the PPPOE user ID and password that Tata Indicom requires and save. However it said if you adapter is NOT behind a router, then follow this step. I guess since the router is setup as a BRIDGE, I could follow this step.

4. Setup MODEM, then BRIDGE, THEN ROUTER/BRIDGE and PC. Connect Linksys PAP2 to BRIDGE before router. Does this work.

SPECIFIC issue is my Vonage adapter does not seem to work even after the installation/config steps indicated with Tata Indicom broadband service.....

LINE 1 phone LED lights are not ON. Also No dial tone.

Power LED is bright BLUE.
Ethernet LED is bright BLUE.

To get dial tone, phone keypad step 80# and hangup of phone as indicated in Linksys manual causes msg - Invalid Option.

Linksys adapter was rebooted twice...also rebooted the Modem, Router and Linksys adapter in proper sequence w/time lag 1 min.

Any ideas? Please help.
