Vonage I am hoping for some networking help. I have an existing wired network with an RT31P2

I am hoping for some networking help. I have an existing wired network with an RT31P2 router as my vonage device and a SB4100 Motorola surfboard cable modem. I am trying to add a wireless router as I just purchased a laptop for my wife to use in various places around the home. I have tried three different wireless routers and keep encountering the same problem. I have tried a Buffalo WHR-G54S (which I tried to flash with DD-WRT, but have been unsuccessful in getting it flashed using tftp), and also a linksys WRT54GS v.6 and a D-Link I-524. Here is the problem: I set up any of the above devices as the new, primary router with the RT31P2 connected from a LAN port of the primary router to its WAN. My Vonage VOIP works fine. However, my streaming Audio and video from the primary router to my desktop through a wired, ethernet connection is lousy. Sound quality decreased, some streams keep buffering. If I go back to the RT31P2 as my primary router. Everything works fine again and streaming audio is great. If I put one of the new, wireless routers "behind" the RT31P2 as a "chained LAN," everything works, but this is a suboptimal solution, because I end up with 2 different networks between my 2 desktops and one laptop and can't easily share resources. Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this? Thanks.

Consider using your new wireless router as just an access point, not a router.
Go to the Linksys website, go to support, help, enter the RT31P2 Linksys model
