Vonage How do you know it isn't the company you have the email address with that didn't

How do you know it isn't the company you have the email address with that didn't sell your address? How do you know that it isn't some random email generator spam? I get spam to one of my accounts and all the addresses in the to field are variations on my name. They just generate variations like crazy and bulk send to everyone. If it bounces they remove it, if it doesn't then they add it to a good list and boom. Back in dial-up days my brother switched ISP's but never used the email address they gave him for anything. Never logged in once. Until one day he was curious and connected and it was full of spam. I used to have a netscape.com email address that I did the same thing with. Never used at all but filled up with spam.
