Hi there,

I had the same problem that you all are describing. I was using a Linksys router at the time. I called Vonage about the problem, and they emailed me a list of ports that need to be opened in the router.

The problem is that I no longer have this email... :) But what you are describing sounds exactly like the problems I had at first, and opening these ports in my router fixed the problem immediately.

I now have a Netgear router, which runs Vonage beautifully with no port forwarding modifications. Vonage actually told me that they don't really like Linksys routers - same with DLink and a couple of others.

For those of you still struggling with this problem, it sure sounds to me like maybe these TCP/UDP ports are closing in your router that Vonage is using. Perhaps some research would help you determine which ports they are. It was a fairly huge range, if I remember correctly.

Good luck to you all. By the way, I'm using the Cisco ATA186 on this Netgear router, and I honestly can't remember the last time I had a problem getting dialtone, unless my router froze up. And I use the phone quite heavily.
