Vonage Hi everyone. I need help configuring my home web server (WinXP) to work with

Hi everyone.

I need help configuring my home web server (WinXP) to work with my new static IP address and my old Vonage Motorola TA. If I take the MTA out of the loop (disconnect completely), my web server is visible to the world. Here's my physical connection:

DSL modem (by Broadmax) -> WAN connection to
Motorola Telephone Adapter (MTA) ->
WAN connection of MTA to Internet connection of Linksys router
PC connection of MTA to empty port on same Linksys router.

The MTA has 5 connections:
a) power, b) phone #1, c) phone #2, d) WAN, e) PC

So connector (d) goes to the Internet connector on the Linksys, and connector (e) goes to an open port on the same router.

I have the MTA set up with my static IP, DNS, etc. and all computers can get online just fine. The Linksys is set for dynamic IP since it's behind the MTA (which is acting as a router).

I've tried many combos of addresses & DNS for my web server but at the moment it's set to:

IP addr: 192.168.1.20
mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1 (which is addr of Linksys router)
DNS #1: 192.168.1.1
DNS #2: <nothing>

I have port forwarding disabled on the MTA and port 80 forwarded on the Linksys for address 192.168.1.20. This setup doesn't work of course but I've tried so many combinations.

When it did work, I removed the MTA, set the Linksys to my static IP, set the web server to 192.168.1.20 (same as it it now), forward port 80 for this address and ta-dahh it works great.

I was told by Vonage to put the MTA in front of the router but now I'm not so sure. Actually I'm open for any suggestion as I've tried so many combinations I'm dizzy.

The Vonage tech I'm working with told me to disable port forwarding on the MTA, enable it on the Linksys (which means I have to set my web server to an address on its range which I did above, right) and that it's ok to have DHCP enabled on both routers. I've always thought otherwise, but what do I know :o

(The Linksys is a simple 4-port wired router, model NR041 which is actually by Network Everywhere but has a Linksys name plate and is supported by Linksys.)

Any suggestions where I should go from here? :?:

Thnx, Deb
