Hi Steve & Sophia - thanks for the replies. So I switched the wires as you indicated: red/green, yellow/black. Nothing. I tried just about every combination I could think of, and still nothing. I've checked every cable direct to the router & phone and they all work...the only connection I don't know how to test is the basement to first floor. I can only assume that signal, for some reason, is not getting from the one wall jack to the other. I'm wondering if it would just be that the wall connector/jack on one end or the other is bad...but I don't know how to test that. I was thinking about the line testers (it looks like they're only about $10 at Home Depot), but I don't know how that would work. Doesn't there have to be a signal in the first place? If I connect my router (phone out 1) to the basement wall receptacle and then I connect the tester to the wall receptacle upstairs and get an indication of "no signal" that doesn't necessarily tell me which, if either, of the wall receptacles is bad. I'd think there's got to be some way to determine if the connections are all good to pass signal properly, right? But how? Ugh... I'm lost...and frustrated. :x
