Vonage Hi Portlandse, There's very little difference between the 4W and 4WG models..

Hi Portlandse,

There's very little difference between the 4W and 4WG models..

I have RoadRunner, from BrightHouse Networks. They pretended to be baffled, at first, recommended I call NetGear.

I did, and worked my way up to Tier 3 Tech. Support. I gave the technician remote access to my router, and after a moment r so said "This is not our firmware inside this modem.. Out of the factory, our routers don't have this screen or that screen, and this screen is different than our OEM version.."

Additionally, we discovered that BrightHouse had disabled the "poweruser" login function, which would allow me to disable the SPI firewall, [size=9]( Which, after a LOT of help from NateHoy, a venerable member of this forum, helped me deduce was the root problem) and the NetGear tech passed me off to corporate HQ.

Things then got kind of interesting; the engineer ithen spoke w/ @ HQ inferred, but did not outright declare, that the changes made to the router were not authorized by, or supported by, NetGear.

More than that I probably shouldn't say, but i am now waiting for a NetGear router from BrightHouse in OEM condition, that's MAC address/serial number will be accepted by BrightHouse and I ca then confirm or disprove this is an SPI issue.

I'd call Comcast, interrogate them (get to a Level 2 or 3 tech) as to whether or not the NetGear is an OEM version, and take it from there.
