Vonage Hi, I just got the v-portal setup kit. I have a dsl modem and TRENDnet 633GR wireless

Hi, I just got the v-portal setup kit. I have a dsl modem and TRENDnet 633GR wireless router like everyone else who has more than one computer. I have some question about the setup and hope someone can help me out. It looks like that I need to put the v-portal in between DSL modem and TRENDnet router based on the quick start guide. Do I really have to do that? If I do that which mean all of my outgoing/incoming internet traffic will go through the v-portal. I am just wondering if I can just plug in the v-portal using the yellow etherent port only and connect to the ethernet port in the back of my TRENDnet router. I do not see any reason why not and may be I just need to open certain ports in the TRENDnet router to allow the voip traffic. How do you guys do that? Any advice will be very appreciated. Thanks. Mugen

newbie setup v-portal for DSL & router

You can set it up the way you are thinking, just make sure that you give the V-portal
Thanks and just wondering how much bandwidth does voip consume in general speaking?
With the high call settings Vonage consumes at most 90kbps in each direction.
Just want to double check that if I do what I mentioned from above, connect the v-portal
yes, you do not want to setup PPPoE on your portal if it sits behind your router.
