Vonage Hi, I have SBC Yahoo DSL in the Chicago area and decided to try Vonage. The equipment

Hi, I have SBC Yahoo DSL in the Chicago area and decided to try Vonage. The equipment list I have is a Speedstream 5100A DSL modem, a Dlink DI-704 Router, and the Linksys RT31P2 Voip Router. Connecting the equipmet according to Vonage I connected the Speedstream modem to the Linksys VIOP router and configured my Dlink Router as a hub. This worked fine when I tested the DSL internet connection but I noticed my speed dropped fom 2.5mbps/490mbps to 2.2mbps/490mbps when I was using the internet alone. When I tested the Voip by itself it worked fine. The following morning I decided to test this to the max. I made a phone call and TRIED to use the internet for speed tests. I could not even connect to the internet while making a call. So I TRIED to tweak the Linksys Router settings and set the MTU to 1492, using SBC DSL I am on a Remote Terminal 900ft away and had to Lower my RWIN setting to ~1470 on my XP boxes using DRTCP to achieve maximum speed. I tweaked EVERY setting on the Linksys Router to try and use the internet while making a call and had NO SUCCESS . The reason that I tried this configuration in the first place was to get the VIOP QOS, I did not know if I configured it any other way would my phone service be crap? So my next attempt which was SUCCESSFUL was to connect my DSL MODEM to the Dlink Router and use a hub with a crossover cable and connect the Linsys VIOP router to that. Basically this was my original configuration to start out with before Vonage. Well this configuration ROCKS!!! I was using emule on 4 computers maxing out my bandwidth while talking to Mom over the phone. The internet speeds were great, my call quality was exceptional and I was happy. So I decided to give Vonage a call out of curiousity of why I could not get the Linsys to work with even one computer connected to it AND to let them know of my configuration so it may help anyone who had the same problem. First call was to the Help Desk so they tranferred me to someone with technical expertise. WHAT A JOKE, I explained what I tried and they said "As long as it works where is the problem." The problem is the AVERAGE JOE most likely would not get the Linksys to work. I inquired about any problems with the Linksys Router and was told for some customers I just does not work but there have been other customers with MY configuration that works fine. WHAT IS THE ISSUE WITH THE LINKSYS RT31P2 ? I basically was blown off when I asked if she was noting my configuration so Vonage could help other customers without going through the few hours I did to get EVERTHING to work. So I hope this post may help someone seeing that Vonage Tech Support is a Tech Joke .

Regards,
JohnnyQuest
