Vonage Hi, I am trying to make my Linksys RTP300 work with an ADSL line provided by

Hi,

I am trying to make my Linksys RTP300 work with an ADSL line provided by BSNL (the ISP) in India. I searched the forum for my specific problem, but didn't succeed. I also called Vonage help, but they simply passed the buck to ISP. The ISP help is kind of non-existing. Hence this post.

The ADSL modem is Huawei WA1003A. It has a built in wireless feature. I think it has routing capabilities too. I think so because it has a private IP 192.168.1.1. As I am not a Network geek, plz forgive me for my poor knowledge.

I can connect to the internet through this ADSL modem in two ways. First option is to connect wirelessly where the modem assigns an IP of type 192.168.1.x to my laptop. The second option is to connect through a LAN cable. In this case, the only way internet works is by assigning a static IP to the laptop e.g. 192.168.1.2

I setup Linksys RTP300 using the instructions for DSL modem in Vonage manual. After putting in all wires and powering on all devices in order, I accessed RTP300 config in the browser with URL 192.168.15.1. I changed internet type to PPPoE and entered info like ISP userid and password. But, it just won't work and never connects to the internet. The green phone light on RTP300 is also not on. The Vongae manual instructions for DSL modem can be seen here http://vonage.com/help.php?article=902&category=90&nav=3#DSL

As I said earlier, in order to make internet work with a LAN wire connected to the laptop directly from DSL modem, I had to assign a static IP to my laptop. This gave me the idea to assign a static IP to RTP300. I accessed RTP300 config through 192.168.15.1, changed internet connection type to static IP and assigned an IP of type 192.168.1.x with gateway and DNS pointing to the DSL modem i.e. 192.168.1.1 I saved the settings and the green phone light turns on. I get the dial tone and able to make and receive calls. Everything is good so far in the phone line except the fact that sometimes a call terminates in exactly 24 seconds. However, after saving these settings, I am not able to access RTP300 config even through the new URL 192.168.1.x (the static IP that I assigned to it). Also, the internet connection doesn't work on laptop through RTP300 (at this point, the laptop is configured for DHCP and doesn't have any static IP as my RTP300 is DHCP enabled).

Now, the problem is that after about a day or so, the green phone light on RTP300 turns off and there's no dial tone any more. In order to make this work again, I have to reset my RTP300 to factory settings and repeat the whole process again. Everyday.

To summarize, I have following questions.

1) What is turning the phone line off on RTP300?
2) Why can't I access the RTP300 config through the new static IP assigned to it.
3) I am not able to access internet through the RTP300 although DHCP is enabled on RTP300

Right now, the first one is of high priority. I don't care about the second one, as it won't matter once the phone is working continuously. The third one is also not very important as I have wireless enabled laptop.

If you think I have missed anything, please let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
