Vonage Hi Guys, I've had vonage for about a week now, and I'm looking to cancel my POTS.

Hi Guys,

I've had Vonage for about a week now, and I'm looking to cancel my POTS. I live above a post office with about 5 other apartments in the building. I currently have a 25' wire running from my bedroom (where my connection is) to a phone in living room.

The problem is: I want the phone on the oppisite wall where my orginal phone jack was. Now there are like 6 phone jacks in my apartment it's only 2 bedrooms so I don't see why they previous people had so many jacks, one is even mounted above a doorway and another is mounted inside the bathroom's medicine cabinet. My only theroy is that they had an alarm system installed.

Anyhow.. There are two NIU's outside my building. I really don't want to go messing with the other phone lines because I'm sure messing around with a Post Office's phone line is some sort of federal offense punishable by life in prison :eek:

I was thinking of just dissconecting my POTS service then plugging in the adaptor to the jack w/o disconnecting @ the NIU, but I've read this can damage the adaptor and wouldn't want to risk some phone tech coming here to hook up someone elses phone and accidently activating mine.

So is there any way to know by just looking at the wires? Should/Will my phone company come out and disconnect @ the NIU if I pay for a home visit?
