Vonage Hey yall, I recently purchased my v portal on 5/16/2011 its been a week and

Hey yall,

I recently purchased my v portal on 5/16/2011 its been a week and I just wanted to share some stuff with you guys... Ive called customer service many times but no offense to anyone that works for Vonage you guys are "poor" with your troubleshootings but other then that here are some tips for you guys....

Ways to connect your V portal...
1. Laptop (Windows) - You can connect your V portal through bridging your LAN connection with your WiFi connection. Instead of plugging in your V portal to your modem or router plug it into the laptop then.... Right click on your connection (bottom right corner) Click on "Open Network and Sharing Center"... Click on "Change adapter settings" (Left side)... Now what you do here is you highlight your WiFi connection and the connection that says "local area connection" or just look for the connection with the Ethernet cable. Right click while they are both highlighted and select "Bridge connections" and wait for a few seconds then your all set.

2. Laptop (Windows) - Connecting your V portal through sharing your wifi connection. This is another method incase the 1st method does not work. Make sure your V portal is plugged in straight to your laptop not the modem or router... Right click on your connection (bottom right corner) Click on "Open Network and Sharing Center"... Click on "Change adapter settings" (Left side) Right click on your wifi connection... Click on "Properties"... Click on "Sharing"... Check the box where it says "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's connection" .... and then click the arrow on the drop down menu box select "Local Area Connection" and select OK.. Give it a few seconds then your all set.

3. Vonage way - Ofcourse when you bought your Vonage adapter you should've gotten the instructions. I am not going to explain this process you should know it already. You can always fall back on this method if the first two did not work for you.

You are probably wondering why connect it through your laptop... Well maybe your router is in the living room and you want your Vonage device in your room (like me) and don't want to go buy a long ethernet cable that will go through your whole house to your room. Which will look ugly and stupid. I called customer service on this one and the guy gave me an attitude asking why did I connect it to my laptop? Like I was an idiot or something giving me attitude. I tested all 3 ways none of them sound different from each other, they work the same so don't listen to what the Vonage agents have to say.

International Calling:
Now if you are getting the "insufficient fund" message when you are calling international and you have one of the world plans which Vonage offers. Here is a way you can work around it, I have only found 1 way to get around this. If I find any other methods I would post it in this forum... but for now only users with an iPhone, blackberry and I think android(I do not own an android device) can use this method... so here it goes..(I feel your pain if you gotten this message... Its annoying!!!!)

1. First go to your marketplace where you buy your apps from
2. Search for the app "WorldOnGo" for blackberry it costs $3.99 and iPhone it costs .99 and Android it costs $1.99 remember these prices can change anytime.. Its a one time fee but it works great for me on my blackberry and iPhone don't know about android devices.
3. Login with your Vonage online account info
4. Enjoy!!!

Can't hear dial tone:
Now when you call Vonage customer care they are going to say disconnect this wire and disconnect this wire then reconnect this wire and now plug your phone line blah blah blah... If that doesn't work. Sometimes what you need to do is take out the battery from your phone device give it like 30 seconds put the battery back in. Then you should start hearing the dial tone. If that didn't work then I think its time to go shopping to get a new phone.

I hope some of these tips helped you guys out... Ill post up some more tips along the way as my experience with Vonage improves. Have a good one yall!
