I actually just upgraded to this huge amount of bandwidth, as I thought bandwidth was an issue with my problem. I have a wife and 2 kids, we all have our own computers, and we're all always online...

Therefore I assumed we were just eating the bandwidth up. But after upgrading the quality did not change at all... In fact, at times it was worse - even useless....

Yes, you are correct, I have the VT1005 plugged directly into my cable modem. My modem is also a 4 port router, and I have forwarded ports: 5061, 10050~10061, and 50000~50100 to the Vonage box (as I have picked up from research that many of these ports are needed).

There is nothing between the Vonage and the modem, nor is there anything behind the Vonage.

I broke down and called Pakistan (Vonage tech support) today, shortly after posting this thread. They did as I suspected (as I had read many other posts where they did the same thing here) and turned my bandwidth saver down to 30.

The woman on the line informed me that with the Motorola VT1005, this is what it was designed for and that's what it should stay at. I don't know how true that is, but in her defense, it's been working good this evening.

I made sure she made notes on my account of all the seting changes she made, so that if I had to call back, we wouldn't go thru the same things.

We'll see how it goes for the next couple days and I'll let you know.

In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be willing to try them out in the event this fix doesn't actually fix the problem.

Sorry, I submitted without answering all of your questions...

We have both cordless and corded phones - the issue is not dependant on the phone type.... When one doesnt work, none of them work....

I do have a neighbor who has broadband, and would be willing to try the device at his house, but it's not like I can make it screw up on demand. It may be fine for 15 minutes, then BAM - its unusable...

Maybe one day when I got a bunch of calls to make for work I'll carry it over to his place and give it a shot :)
