Hey, A little while ago, I made a similar post on the same subject. Unfortunately, I haven't had an opportunity to post an update to let everyone know how my service is working. I live in Toronto and signed up for Rogers Ultra-Lite high speed service. I was worried about the upload speeds and the capabilities to have a conversation with only 64 kbps. I decided to chance it and order Vonage. Aside from a minor problem with the set up involving an old firmware version on my RTP 300, I played around with the dashboard settings until I got it to work properly. At first, with the dashboard speed setting at 90kbps, the phone didn't work too well, my voice sounded choppy. I reduced the speed setting to the minimum, I think 30 kbps, and people on the other end heard an echo. After a week, I changed the setting to 50kbps (the middle setting) and it works great. If you plan to use Vonage with either the Ultra-Lite or Ultra, you will have to recognize the capabilities of your service. I cannot use the Internet while speaking on the phone. If I'm on the Internet and the phone rings, I hit stop on all pages downloading. As well, every once in a while, if I have my Outlook open, the phone may act up if my computer checks E-mail automatically. Hope this helps, J Download: 136kbps Upload: 70kbps QoS: 97% Round: 44ms Max Pause: 280 ms

Minimum internet speed for Vonage VoIP?

Hey everyone, I was looking to setup VoIP at my place in London, Ontario, through
I wouldnt go any lower than the Express (3.0 Mbps). Although, I'm pretty sure it
The lowest speed I would say is Lite but given that speeds change with day to day
I have the 3M, and it works great, I have my RT31P2 behind another router, and off
I don't know if it costs to upgrade, but if it doesn't you could start with the Lite
As a benchmark, my Vonage worked well with DSL, I know you're looking at Cable,
Thanks for all of your replies, everyone. I think I'm actually going to go with
VoIP uses a little over 50kbps of bandwidth so you can pick your package based on
Jim, I was planning on using the router I already have (Linksys WRT54G) plus
Your router does indeed support QoS so you'll be fine.
