Here's a solution for people who may have lost internet connectivity with VT1005 in going from XP to Vista OS: IT DOESN'T WORK!
I've had Vonage for 4 years using the VT1005 adapter using Windows 98 and XP. Bought new Vista computer a MONTH ago and that was the LAST of my Vonage service. I can start a store with the 2 "new" (total 3) VT1005 Tech Support sent me... but NO internet when box installed. Finally, Matthew figured it out! VT1005 DOESN'T work with Vista! (Microsoft has knowledgebase article on Old Routers at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932134 and a TOOLS page for checking your router at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/tools/igd/default.mspx
VT1005 fails test because it uses old Symmetric technology.
SOLUTION: Matthew sent a VT2142 yesterday.... and 10 minutes later I was back to enjoying my Vonage VOIP service (after no phone for 30 days!) Replace your VT1005 if going to Vista. (Also, buy a "MagicJack" USB VOIP FOR $39.95 for free US/Canada backup phone service while you get your Vonage service back.) LOL
