Hello all, I am new to the Vonage forums but I've been a customer of theirs for almost 2 years. I've had the Motorola black box for quite a while but lately over the past several months I have been having lots and lots of problems with it. I've made hundreds of calls to Adelphia over those past several months, some things have been fixed, some haven't. The other day I happened to get in touch with a person in their level 2 tech support who just happens to be a Vonage customer himself. He suggested that I go with the other Linksys router...rtp45 or something along those lines but he didn't mention that I would have to pay for it out of my own pocket. He gave me the impression that the Motorola's are getting to be to much of a problem to work with. I got the RTP300-VD from Vonage today (Friday the 5th of August, ordered the 3rd of August..shipped fast) but I am having just way to many problems. I am not using the built in router from Linksys, I am not familiar with them to much plus I've heard that it will not allow you to keep a good internet speed if you are on cable. I am going from cable modem to my Netgear MR814 v2(am NOT using the wireless...using wired ports) and then to this Linksys Voip Broadband router. Vonage tech/customer service says that I am set up on port 2, it does light up but tells me (you may be connected to the wrong port, please try the other one) so I do. I get a dial tone and can make 1 call. After that it hangs open the line and I get 3 tones, like I dialed a wrong number. I tried to use the port forwarding as posted in another forum but that did not work. I have lowered the firewall in the router and that did not work. I have done SEVERAL power cycles but nothing seems to work correctly. I followed the instructions exactly before I hooked this up, had my cable modem off for several hours to have it clear, hooked it back up, then the Netgear router and then the Linksys device. Sometimes when the 2nd phone port is lit up and I go to make a call and it tells me "try the other port" I do. Phone port 1 is not lit up but yet I can make that 1 call, sometimes 2.
I apologize for the length of all of this but I like to be as thorough and detailed as I can when asking for assistance like this. Also for you cable techs out there who might be reading this. Our cable ped is dedicated entirely to us...we have 2 drop cables. One goes to the tv's and the other is for the modem all on it's own with NO splitters so I know I am getting optimal signal. Power level on the RCA modem is great..40.3 dBmV and the SNR is 39.4 dB . One other thing, I can not log into the Linksys router directly at the specified address on my Linksys paperwork In the past few days I even tried to log into my Motorola modem to check that out but now that does not work either. I won't even mention anything about Vonage's Customer service / tech support. Can anyone give me some tips ? Trying to search for the RTP300 0n the internet is producing almost zero results too.
